I am an avid cook and own many cookbooks but this is still my favourite, so much so that I have purchased it for my future daughter-in-law. You don't necessarily get the exotic recipes, though there are some, but what you do get is the basis for doing just about everything. Lots of pages were stained but it's harsh to be too critical about that as there are so many volumes in one and it was so cheap. And Delia Smith makes the best roast potatoes :) She might not have the media popularity of some of the other TV chef personalities, but she can sure cook and teach. If you were not as lucky to be taught , then this is the best 'surrogate mummy cook' for the nation. In addition there are step-by-step colour photographs illustrating basic techniques, such as how to make bread, chutney, marmalade and omelettes.
